Nobody had a better weekend than Cardi Baby Mama…okurrrr!
She dropped her debut album “Invasion of Privacy” at midnight on Friday April 6th, after announcing the release merely hours before via twitter. It’s rare that an artist’s first full body of work is as anticipated as Cardi’s, but after her breakout 2017 hit “Bodak Yellow” and numerous features, Bardi gang was ready & waiting.
So far, the former reality star’s new music has been getting rave reviews, and co-signs from artists like Rihanna and 50 Cent.
The timing was perfectly situated a day before Cardi B performed for the first time on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live”, hosted by “Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman. It was another massive feat for a relatively new artist.
She kicked off with a medley of her first singles “Bodak Yellow” and “Bartier Cardi”. The real show began with a tight shot of Cardi, during her second performance, which slowly zoomed out to reveal her whole body and very much pregnant belly. The mama-to-be’s growing bump was on display in a form fitting white ruched dress, while she passionately rapped about a philandering lover in “Be Careful”.
For context, there were rumors and alleged video of her fiancée Offset cheating on her with another woman. Cardi was also dealing with the rampant pregnancy speculation for months, due to her more buttoned up attire as of late. The SNL performance appeared to answer both questions.
Many fans have expressed skepticism of the 25-year-old’s ability to handle a new album with a baby on the way (and uh don’t forget she’s still on the Coachella lineup for the next two weekends). However, supporters like “Claws” star Niecy Nash came to her defense on instagram with the hashtag #CardiYouGotThis.
Congrats Cardi B! I can’t wait to bump “Bodak Preggo” in celebration.
That’s not a real song, FYI.
