Brandon Michael Hall is restoring his faith in TV with his new series, “God Friended Me”. He’s joined by ‘Scandal’s Papa Pope (Joe Morton), Violett Beane, Suraj Sharma, and Javicia Leslie. Steven Lillen and Bryan Wynbrandt are executive producers on the show.
The premise of the show is that Brandon’s character Miles is a non-believer, whose sister is gay, and his father is a pastor. One day Miles gets friend requested by “God” and his life changes forever as he gets “suggested friends” from aforementioned account.
While religion serves as a playground for the series to explore, the creators said the focus is less on faith in religious figures and more about faith in humanity. Their writers room is comprised of both believer and nonbelievers, and the show mentions other spiritual beliefs as well.
“God Friended Me” Premieres on CBS Sunday, September 30th.
