WHAM- Check Out New York’s Women’s Empowerment Art Gallery – Kicked Off With The Ladies Of Hello Tittie

Hey IC readers,

I had the opportunity to interview and meet some really cool women this past weekend. As you know already March is all about W-O-M-E-N so we thought it would be a nice to show you what boss babes in art specifically have been working on. We met up with some visual artist at NYC’s Upper West Side Goddard Community Center where they will be hosting a month long artist based event entitle “WHAM” which stands for “Women History Art Month”. A lot of the artists spoke about what inspires them to create which seemed to just be an unanimous response “it helps me channel the energies I feel.” When women come together there is a powerful energy that is felt and it was all consuming during the event. IC: HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU BEEN CREATING ART? WHY DO YOU DO IT?

CR: SINCE I’VE BEEN A KID, BUT I HAVE BEEN DOING DIGITAL WORK THE PAST FEW YEARS. IT IS A GREAT OUTLET FOR ME TO JUST FEEL FREE. AND RELEASE ENERGY.

IC: WHICH ARTIST OF THE PAST MOST INSPIRES YOU?

CR: ANDY WARHOL

IC: IS IT WEIRD TO HAVE STRANGERS JUDGE YOUR WORK?

CR: YES. IT MAKES ME FEEL EXCITED. I LIKE TO HEAR WHAT PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY.

IC: DO YOU THINK IT IS A GOOD WAY TO MAKE A LIVING?

CR: I THINK IT IS FOR SOME PEOPLE. IT IS NOT MY ULTIMATE GOAL

IC: WHEN DOES IT START TO FEEL LIKE WORK AND LESS LIKE SOMETHING CREATIVELY INSPIRED?

CR: WHEN IT FEELS LIKE I HAVE TO MAKE THINGS TO PLEASE PEOPLE

IC: DO YOU OR DID YOU TAKE ANY ART CLASSES AS A CHILD? DID THE TEACHER SEE SOMETHING IN YOU?

CR: YES I DID. MAYBE THEY DID.

IC: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR ART CAREER GOING IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS?

CR: ID LIKE TO DO MORE LOCAL SHOWS LIKE THESE TO PROMOTE MYSELF. I WOULD LOVE TO GO BACK HOME TO CHICAGO TO DISPLAY SOME WORK.

IC: DOES SOCIAL MEDIA SPECIFICALLY INSTAGRAM HELP TO ENHANCE YOUR ART CAREER OR DO YOU FEEL THAT IT INFRINGES ON IT?

CR: BOTH, I THINK IT HELPS WITH EXPOSURE BUT IT CAN ALSO BECOME ADDICTING.
