AEW Dynamite September 4, 2024: Mariah May & Kazuchika Okada Defend Their Titles, Daniel Garcia Calls Out MJF, Hangman Burns Down Swerve’s House

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite emanates from the UW Panther Arena in Milwaukee, Wisconsin! Mariah May and Kazuchika Okada defend their respective championships. Daniel Garcia calls out MJF. Will Ospreay teams with Kyle O’Reilly and Orange Cassidy. Jon Moxley’s says time is running out for Darby Allin. “Hangman” Adam Page burns down the childhood home of Swerve Strickland, and much more!

Daniel Garcia Calls Out MJF

Garcia calls out MJF, who then reveals himself to be sitting in the crowd. MJF reminds Garcia of their interaction at AEW Blood & Guts.

Garcia questions if the fans really believe what MJF is saying, but finds it fitting because everything about MJF is “fake.” Garcia calls MJF’s love for AEW fake, as well as his tattoo, and the hair on his head from the transplant that failed. Garcia wants to ruin MJF’s life and the people around him to suffer. Garcia tells MJF he wants him to have a wife and a kid in the future. Garcia says MJF will eventually have to tell his kid that he was a wrestler until Garcia ruined his career.

MJF says Garcia still has so much to learn and maturing to do. MJF says Garcia was trying to do him a favor when he attacked him weeks ago. MJF points out that the fans turned on him as he rose to the top of AEW. MJF says the same will happen for Daniel Garcia if he follows the same path.

MJF says he’ll make sure the fans don’t hurt Garcia like they hurt him, by putting Garcia in a wheelchair at AEW All Out. MJF brings up Garcia’s mother and promises that he won’t be the only man she’s attended to in her bed, alluding to MJF himself.

Garcia runs out of the ring and toward MJF but gets stopped by security. Garcia fends off the security and charges toward MJF again. MJF whacks him over the head with a bottle. MJF thanks a bleeding Garcia for waking up a dormant part of him. As a further thank you, MJF vows to send Garcia to paradise.

AEW Continental Championship: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Kyle Fletcher

Okada and Fletcher lock up. Okada looks to chop Fletcher against the rope, but ceases before he connects. Fletcher counters a Rainmaker. Fletcher lands a running high kick on Okada then takes him out with a suicide dive. Back from commercial break, Okada spikes Fletcher with a DDT on the outside. Fletcher hits Okada with a kick and a brainbuster on the apron.

In the match’s closing moments, Okada sends Fletcher flying out of the ring with a dropkick in the corner. Okada then kicks Fletcher over the barricade. Fletcher responds with a brainbuster over the same barricade. Fletcher charges at Okada and takes him out with a dive. Fletcher drags Okada back into the ring and slams him to the mat. Fletcher goes up top for an elbow drop and connects. Fletcher lands a kick across Okada’s shoulder and looks for the Tombstone.

Okada counters with a lariat. Okada connects with another lariat and a dropkick. Fletcher and Okada trade strikes. Fletcher delivers a jumping tombstone. Fletcher slams Okada and goes up top again, but Okada distracts the referee and hits him with a low blow. Okada then follows up with the Rainmaker for the win.

Winner (And Still): Kazuchika Okada

Post-match, Konosuke Takeshita slides in to check on Fletcher before staring down with Okada.

AEW shows video of Swerve Strickland purchasing his childhood home with the money from his new contract.

Jamie Hayter vs. Robyn Renegade

Renegades connects with a dropkick, to which Hayter responds with a lariat. Renegades land a pair of double knees to Hayter in the corners. Hayter connects with a kick, but Renegade then stomps Hayter’s head through the ropes. Hayter responds with a powerslam and a trio of backbreakers. Hayter connects with Hayterade for the win as Saraya and Harley Cameron watch from backstage.

Winner: Jamie Hayter

Backstage, Marina Shafir takes out members of security as Jon Moxley walks alongside her. Shafir and Moxley come face-to-face with The Elite. Moxley calls Jack Perry a “sweet kid” before heading out to the ring.

We Hear From Jon Moxley

Moxley recalls wrestling Darby Allin in a 20-minute match and thinking of him as a special performer. Moxley says it is a privilege to perform in front of the fans, and not a right. Moxley says he’s not impatient, but the clock is ticking, so he wants to talk to Allin. Moxley and Marina Shafir then leave the ring.

Backstage, Renee Paquette is with the Learning Tree. Chris Jericho recalls Orange Cassidy ruining his white jacket four years ago with a bucket of orange juice. Jericho says his jacket was worth $7,000. Jericho says Bryan Keith will take down Cassidy during their match on AEW Collision. Big Bill and Keith warn Cassidy that he better make good on his debts. Cassidy emerges in frame and says if Keith defeats him, then he’ll give Jericho his $7,000 back in cash.

AEW Women’s Championship: Mariah May (c) vs. Nyla Rose

May tries for a leg sweep, but Rose connects with a stomp. Rose lays out May with a pair of slams. Rose puts May over the top rope, but May escapes. May goes up top for a dropkick. May tries for a pinfall, but Rose kicks out.

Later, May connects with another dropkick for a pinfall attempt, which Rose again kicks out of. Rose and May then collide heads. May and Rose exchanges strikes. May runs against the ropes and eats a knee from Rose. May then connects with elbow strike, to which Rose immediately bounces back from.

Rose takes down May with a clothesline. May looks for crossbody, but Rose catches her and powerslams to the mat. May rolls to the outside. May sweeps Rose off her feet and into the steel steps. May then hits a running knee. Rose is left on the outside as the referee begins their count. Rose barely beats the referee’s count and runs into a running knee from May. May follows up with a Storm Zero for the win.

TBS Champion Mercedes Mone & Hikaru Shida Trade Words

Mone says she is the face of TBS and the entirety of AEW. Mone reminds Hikaru Shida that there is a price to pay when one messes with Mone.

Shida then appears on the screen, and says Mone was one second away from losing at AEW All In. Shida says Mone knows that she can’t beat “The Ace.” Christopher Daniels emerges on-screen and informs Kamille that she is banned from ringside during Mone’s TBS Championship match at AEW All Out.

Backstage, The Elite warn Bryan Danielson and the remainder of the Blackpool Combat Club that they will go to great lengths to ensure that Jack Perry walks out of All Out as AEW World Champion.

Will Ospreay, Kyle O’Reilly & Orange Cassidy vs. Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, and PAC (w/ Bryan Danielson on commentary)

 O’Reilly and Yuta lock up and trade submission holds to begin the action. Cassidy tags in and exchanges strikes with Yuta before Yuta sends him crashing to the mat. Cassidy tags in Ospreay, who then comes face-to-face with PAC.

In the match’s closing moments, O’Reilly and Cassidy double team Castagnoli with a series of kicks. Cassidy looks for an Orange Punch but Yuta pulls his leg. O’Reilly takes Yuta down and then eats an uppercut from Castagnoli, O’Reilly then locks in a guillotine submission on Castagnoli. Castagnoli escapes and lands another uppercut. Castagnoli then takes O’Reilly for a swing and pins him for the win.

Winners: Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta & PAC

After the match, Bryan Danielson heads down to the ring to celebrate. The Elite attacks The Blackpool Combat Club from behind. Jack Perry looks to smash a chair into Danielson while The Young Bucks hold his arms back, but Castagnoli stops him. The Blackpool Combat Club fend off The Elite, prompting The Elite to retreat.

Castagnoli then says The Elite made a great mistake. Castagnoli then calls out The Young Bucks for an AEW Tag Team Championship match at All Out. Danielson then addresses Jack Perry and promises to kick his head in at All Out.

Backstage, Will Ospreay and PAC are brawling. PAC suplexes Ospreay onto a road case as Ospreay then clutches his neck.

“Hangman” Adam Page & Swerve Strickland Contract Signing

Tony Schiavone introduces Swerve Strickland, who takes a seat at the table inside the ring. Schiavone goes to introduce Adam Page, but Page doesn’t come out.

Page appears on the LED screen and reveals himself to be in Strickland’s childhood home. Page says Strickland messed up by showing the world, and him, something important. Page walks through the house insulting Strickland, telling him that his father probably didn’t love him very much. Page pours lighter fluid around the front door and the front yard and tells Strickland that he wants to burn his world to the ground. Page vows to take what is left of Strickland at AEW All Out and show him no mercy.

Page tells Strickland to say goodbye to the AEW World Championship and any idea he has of holding it again. For now, though, Page says he can say goodbye to his childhood house. Page then ignites the fuse as Strickland’s house burns behind him.
