Eric Young Hosts Vinyl Obsession: A Music Lover’s Journey

Vinyl Obsession’s sophomore season finds Young—one of the most decorated athletes in TNA Wrestling history and a lifelong music enthusiast—taking over as host. The two-time TNA World Champion is a self-described lover of music and a passionate record connoisseur, armed with an eclectic collection of more than 2,000 vinyl albums amassed over nearly two decades.

TNA Wrestler, Eric Young has added another show to his resume. The former two-time TNA World Champion has secured a gig as the host of AXS TV original series Vinyl Obsession.

Vinyl Obsession, is back for a second season. The show, “cruises the aisles of the country’s most legendary record shops, as a star-studded roster of rock icons and entertainers select their top five records of all time”

Young, is “a self-described lover of music and a passionate record connoisseur, armed with an eclectic collection of more than 2,000 vinyl albums amassed over nearly two decades.”

I had the chance to chat with Young about his new role and experience on the show, he said hosting the show was like “living a dream.”

The lineup of guests on the show includes Dave Mustaine, Sebastian Bach, Chris Shiflett, Melissa Joan Hart, and several others.

Young explained that his favorite part of the show, was not knowing which musicians were going to pick which vinyls.

“I think one of the most interesting things for me was, you’re talking to Dave Mustaine. You think, ‘okay, he’s going to love rock music and Slayer and these other bands.’ But the truth is, he’s like, I love the Beach Boys.”

One of the biggest takeaways Young got from hosting Vinyl Obsession, is that music is a “universal thing” and you never know what genre of music is going to inspire any given artist or fan.

“But in the end, music is such a universal thing in all of our lives. And I think about my music taste, and I’m like a person who’s like, ‘oh, I listen to everything.’ Well, that’s how you end up with 2000 vinyls. Because I listen to everything, but I find that these people that I think some people would look at them and say,’ Oh, this is the genre of the music they make. So that’s the kind of music they listen to.’ And the truth is that they listen to everything. And there’s bands that are super influential to them that people would never guess. So learning that and learning about why they like vinyl music and sharing my story of how I like it.”
