AEW Dynamite October 2, 2024: Ospreay Defends International Title, Danielson vs. Okada, Britt Baker Comes Home

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite Grand Slam emanates from the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Will Ospreay defends the International Championship against Ricochet. Britt Baker returns to her hometown to face Serena Deeb. Adam Page battles Juice Robinson. AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson collides with Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada in a title-for-title match and more!

Blackpool Combat Club Sends A Warning To Yuta & Danielson

PAC, Claudio Castagnoli, and Marina Shafir inform Wheeler Yuta that it’s time for him to pick sides between them and Bryan Danielson. Castagnoli tells Yuta that they still have big plans for him.

Jon Moxley says he is going to have the AEW World Championship one way or another. Moxley says Bryan Danielson will get a gift from him at AEW WrestleDream — getting to go out on his own soil, where he will then be buried in his own backyard. Moxley says he will officially relieve Danielson of his duties and is sending “daddy” home for good.

International Championship: Ricochet vs. Will Ospreay (c)

Ospreay and Ricochet trade high-flying offenses, which leads to a stalemate. Ricochet and Ospreay then exchange chops, while Ricochet connects with a backbreaker. Ricochet flies to the outside with a suicide dive and chops Ospreay again. Ricochet whips Ospreay into the barricade, but Ospreay sticks the landing. Ricochet then sends Ospreay flying with a hurricanrana. Back in the ring, Ricochet stays in control with a chop, but Ospreay responds with a twisting kick. Ospreay flies off the top rope and nails Ricochet with an elbow for a pinfall attempt, but Ricochet kicks out. Ricochet and Ospreay dodge kicks from each other. Ricochet hits two clotheslines, before following up with a jumping knee. Ospreay fights back with an enzuigiri and a side slam. Ricochet pushes Ospreay to the apron. Ospreay looks for a Storm-Breaker, but Ricochet escapes, The pair trade kicks before Ospreay connects with an Os-cutter on the apron.

Later, Ospreay connects with another Os-Cutter and attempts a pinfall, but Ricochet kicks out. Ospreay then looks for a Hidden Blade. Ricochet evades it and ascends to the top rope for a Shooting Star Press. Ospreay delivers a poisionrana, to which Ricochet responds with one of his own. Ospreay strikes Ricochet with a Hidden Blade and goes for a pin, but both men’s shoulders are down as this happens.

Winner: A Draw

The referee declares that this match is a draw. However, Justin Roberts relays that Tony Khan has ruled that the match will continue.

Ricochet and Ospreay resume action by trading right hands, and then kicks. Ospreay connects with another Hidden Blade, but is then attacked by Konosuke Takeshita. The referee calls for the bell. Takeshita then lays out Ricochet with a Raging Fire. Takeshita retrieves the International Championship and stands over the motionless Ospreay and Ricochet with it.

Winner (via Disqualification): Will Ospreay

Backstage, Mecedes Mone says she is happy to be a small part of AEW Dynamite’s history. Mone then says she has clips of some of Dynamite’s greatest moments, which all feature her. Mone says AEW’s best moments are all about her. Mone says AEW’s future is so bright, because it runs on Mone. MVP enters the frame and hands Mone his business card, telling her that they should talk sometime.

Elsewhere, “Hangman” Adam Page blindsides Colton and Austin Gunn with a chair.

Chris Jericho Confronts Mark Briscoe

Big Bill introduces Chris Jericho, who is accompanied by Bryan Keith. Chris Jericho says tonight is the 5-year anniversary of Dynamite, but also the 34-year anniversary of his career. Jericho says he was focused on nurturing the branches of the Learning Tree in his career, while also getting as much TV time as he can. However, Jericho had an epiphany. Jericho points out that he recently beat Mark Briscoe. Jericho then challenges Briscoe to an ROH World Championship match at AEW WrestleDream.

Briscoe’s music hits. He arrives alongside The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly, Rocky Romero). Briscoe tells his stablemates to stand down. Briscoe says he learned from his dad, who taught him that behaving like a man is to not make excuses. Briscoe says behaving Iike a man is also calling it like it is. Briscoe calls Jericho one of the most influential wrestlers on the planet. Briscoe says logically, Jericho should get a title shot for defeating him, and Briscoe would love to put the notch in his belt.

Jericho interrupts and says beating him is a tall task, but maybe Mark’s brother Jay Briscoe could have beaten him. Jericho tells Mark he’ll never be as good as Jay was. Briscoe clocks Jericho and accepts Jericho’s challenge.

In a new vignette, Darby Allin lays out an open challenge for anyone to face him at AEW WrestleDream.

“Hangman” Adam Page vs. Juice Robinson

Page and Robinson brawl on the entrance ramp. Robinson kicks Page in the back before whipping him with a strap. Page responds by whipping Robinson three times and throwing the strap away. Page and Robinson travel through the crowd, with Page slamming Robinson’s face onto the arena stairs. Page looks to send Robinson through a table, but Robinson reverses.

Robinson and Page travel up the stairs through the crowd. Robinson throws a drink in Page’s face. As the two descend from the stairs, Robinson whacks Page with a popcorn bucket. Page and Robinson finally enter the ring, and the referee calls for the bell. Page stomps Robinson in the corner.

Back from break, Robinson drives Page to the mat with a superplex. Robinson delivers a series of right hands then follows up with a shoulder tackle. Robinson grounds Page with more right hands. Robinson charges toward Page, but Page rolls out of the way.

Robinson charges, sending himself and Page crashing through the barricade with a cannonball. Back in the ring, Robinson ascends to the top and connects with a crossbody, but Page rolls through. Page then drives Robinson into the turnbuckle with a fallaway slam. Robinson lays out Page with a powerbomb. Page hits a low blow on Robinson, but the referee doesn’t see it. Page follows up with a Buckshot Lariat for the pinfall.

Winner: Adam Page

After the match, Page chokes Robinson with his own belt. Page then hangs Robinson over the ropes by the belt. Jay White’s music hits. He blindsides Page from behind, then rains down with right hands. White follows Page into the crowd and rakes his eyes. White then sends Page crashing through a table. White tends to Robinson and guides him backstage.

Backstage, Katsuyori Shibata challenges Jack Perry to a TNT Championship match at AEW WrestleDream. Perry says he’ll think about it. Perry attacks Shibata and accepts.

Bryan Danielson says AEW is where the best wrestle, which is why he challenged Kazuchika Okada to a match tonight. Tonight, we find out who the best really is.

Britt Baker vs. Serena Deeb

Baker and Deeb lock up and trade arm holds. Baker slams Deeb to the mat then rolls through for a Lockjaw, but Deeb escapes. The camera pans to reveal Mariah May sitting at ringside. Deeb locks Baker in a half crab. Baker reaches the rope to break the hold. Baker drives Deeb to the mat. Deeb takes Baker off her feet then follows up with a ripcord lariat.

Back from break, Baker connects with a ripcord lariat of her own. Baker then hits a sling blade, followed by a Fishermen neckbreaker. Baker takes a glove out of her pocket, teasing a Lockjaw. However, Deeb comes firing back with a Dragon Screw and a powerbomb. Baker elbows Deeb and bounces off the ropes, but Deeb counters with a German Suplex. Deeb looks for a Detox, but Baker drives her into the mat instead. Baker kicks Deeb into the corner and charges toward her. Deeb blocks her. Deeb ascends to the top. Baker clocks her and comes down with an Avalanche off the top. Baker searches for the Lockjaw again and locks it in. Deeb taps out.

Winner: Britt Baker

Post-match, Deeb attacks Baker from behind and locks in another half crab. Queen Aminata charges down to make the save, driving off Deeb out of the ring in the process. Aminata and Baker stand tall.

Backstage, Hook says he’s going to find out who attacked his dad Taz earlier and he will take them out.

Christian Cage says the fans haven’t seen anything from him yet, and soon enough he will have everything in AEW.

Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen) vs. Iron Savages (Bronson & Boulder)

Kassidy dropkicks Bronson. Boulder then tags in and finds himself hit with a double dropkick from Private Party, but remains on his feet. Private Party then finishes off Boulder with their signature move, Gin and Juice, to secure the victory.

Winners: Private Party

Post-match, Private Party call out The Young Bucks (Nicholas and Matthew Jackson), challenging them to an AEW World Tag Team Championship match. Nicholas and Matthew Jackson appear and tease an AEW Tag Team Championship match with Private Party. However, they then say they have limited dates and won’t waste one of them on Pittsburgh. Jack Perry then begins to attack Private Party, with the Young Bucks joining in shortly after. Katsuyori Shibata charges down to the make the save. Christopher Daniels emerges on the stage, announcing a trios match pitting Shibata and Private Party against The Young Bucks and Jack Perry on AEW Rampage.

Backstage, MVP prepares to introduce his new client, but Prince Nana interrupts. Nana confronts MVP about their interaction last week. MVP says he doesn’t deal with complaints, but someone else does. Shelton Benjamin appears beside Nana and takes a sip of his coffee.

Title-For-Title: AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson vs. Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada (Okada’s Title Is Only On The Line For The First 20 Minutes)

Danielson and Okada go for a test of strength. Okada takes Danielson down to his feet, but Danielson locks in an arm bar. Danielson follows up with an arm drag. Danielson and Okada continue battle back until we hit a stalemate.

Back from break, Okada drives Danielson into the corner. Danielson delivers a series of right hands then dropkicks Okada. Okada shifts momentum into his favor with a Flapjack. Danielson then looks for a flying headbutt, but Okada rolls out of the way. Okada locks Danielson into an arm submission, but Danielson breaks it with an arm drag. Okada responds with a DDT. Danielson looks for an elbow in the corner, but Okada dodges it, following up with a dropkick that sends Danielson to the outside.

Okada whips Danielson into the barricades, then briefly returns to the ring to break the referee’s count. Okada then sends Danielson spilling over the barricade. Danielson whips Okada into the barricade as well then nails him with a running knee. Danielson connects with a missile drop kick before diving on Okada to the outside. Back in the ring, Danielson connects with a series of kicks until Okada ducks. Danielson and Okada trade pinfall attempts.

In the match’s closing moments, Okada connects with a big knee for a two count. Danielson rocks Okada with his own finishing move – The Rainmaker. Danielson then elbows Okada in the shoulder. Okada drops Danielson on his neck then follows up with a pair of lariats. Claudio Castagnoli and PAC appear at ringside, which distracts Okada. Danielson surprises Okada with a roll-up for the win.

Winner: Bryan Danielson

After the match, Okada nails Danielson with a Rainmaker then leaves the ring. Castagnoli and PAC enter the ring and hold Danielson’s arms back. Jon Moxley enters the ring and says none of this is about him. Moxley says he is doing it because he has to. Wheeler Yuta charges down with a hammer, causing Castagnoli and PAC to retreat. Moxley then comes face-to-face with Yuta. With Moxley distracted, Danielson nails Moxley with a running knee. Castagnoli, PAC, and Moxley try to jump Danielson and Yuta, but the latter fend them off. Yuta says he can fight his own fights, and if Castagnoli and PAC want to get to Danielson, they’ll have to get through him first. Danielson tells Castagnoli and PAC they can meet him and Yuta in the ring for a tag match next week.
