AEW Dynamite September To Remember: Fletcher & Page Contract Signing, Thekla vs. Queen Aminata, Lashley vs. Liona

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite emanates from London, Ontario, Canada! We break it all down in this week’s AEW Dynamite recap!

Adam Page & Kyle Fletcher Contract Signing

Tony Schiavone introduces, Adam Page, then Kyle Fletcher, who comes to the ring with Don Callis. Callis says he remembers when Page first took the AEW World Championship from Kenny Omega. Now, Callis plans to bring it back to the DCF with Kyle Fletcher. Callis says there is no one like Fletcher. Page says he asked to have no interference at All Out because he sees potential in Fletcher. Page says Fletcher is someone that could carry AEW in the future, but to do it, he has to be worthy of it. Page says Fletcher has to do this on his own. Page then reveals if any DCF member interferes, Fletcher will be stripped of the TNT Championship.

Fletcher says Page could have put anything in the contract and he still would have signed it. Fletcher says he’s scared of nothing. Fletcher asserts that he is still the best pro wrestler in AEW. Fletcher says he will become AEW World Champion. Fletcher says he is better than Page in 2019 and right now. Fletcher says AEW doesn’t need Page or Kenny Omega; it needs Fletcher. Fletcher says he will allow Page to ride off into the sunset, but the entire company belongs to Fletcher now.

Page says he has been in Fletcher’s position, but Fletcher doesn’t know about the feeling of the morning after. Page says whatever Fletcher does will not be enough to beat him. Page tells Fletcher to not disappoint him, then officially signs the contract. Fletcher says is a man of his word and there will be no physicality right now. At AEW All Out, though, he will leave with the AEW World Championship. Fletcher also promises to leave Page beaten and bloody by the end of the night.

Roderick Strong (w/ Kyle O’Reilly) vs. Jon Moxley (w/ Marina Shafir & Daniel Garcia)

Strong chops Moxley along the barricade. Moxley gouges Strong’s eyes. Strong slams him onto the top of the barricade. Moxley splashes Strong in the corner. They trade chops. Strong dropkicks Moxley. They both roll out of the ring. Shafir stares down Strong. O’Reilly then steps up to Garcia. Moxley whips Strong over the barricade.

Back from break, Strong chops Moxley, then clotheslines him. Strong delivers a lung blower and a rising knee strike next. He drives Moxley into the mat for a near fall. Moxley and Strong exchange more chops. Moxley runs over Strong with a clothesline. He then spikes him with a piledriver. Strong kicks out. Moxley locks in an arm bar, but Strong gets his foot on the bottom rope to break it.

Moxley and Strong trade elbow strikes. Strong rocks Moxley with a boot. Moxley tries for a submission, but Strong drops him on his back. Strong and Moxley go up top. Strong rocks Moxley with an enziguiri. Strong then descends with a bulldog off the top. Moxley and Strong fall through the ropes to the outside. Garcia and O’Reilly brawl on the outside. Strong connects with a jumping knee. Wheeler Yuta yanks Strong’s leg as the referee is distracted. Moxley spikes Strong with a Paradigm Shift then cinches in the bulldog choke for the win.

Winner: Jon Moxley

Bobby Lashley (w/ Shelton Benjamin & MVP) vs. Toa Liona (w/ Bishop Kaun & Ricochet)

Lashley and Liona lock up. Liona elbows Lashley in the corner. Liona then slams Lashley into the turnbuckle and elbows him again. Lashley returns fire with right hands. Liona boots Lashley in the face. He follows with a headbutt and Samoan Drop on the apron.

Back from break, Lashley drops Liona to the mat. They trade forearm strikes. Lashley tosses Liona across the ring. Liona headbutts Lashley. Lashley lines up for a spear, but Liona rolls to the outside. Lashley runs to the outside and spears him anyway. MVP clocks Ricochet, then launches him into the barricade. Benjamin superkicks Kaun. Liona drops Lashley with a shoulder for a near fall. Lashley cinches in the Hurt Lock. Liona eventually fades.

Winner: Bobby Lashley

After the match, The Hurt Syndicate level Ricochet and Kaun and toss them out of the ring.

Adam Copeland & Christian Cage Come Face-To-Face With FTR

Copeland and Cage come out first. FTR and Stokely follow with a line of security guards. Tony Schiavone notes that they were will be heavy fines for physicality tonight. Stokely warns that if they touch him, their tag match at All Out will be cancelled. Stokely then introduces FTR. Cash Wheeler says he first met Copeland 16 years ago when he was a young talent. Wheeler says Copeland became a mentor to him. Wheeler says he kicked the door down that Copeland opened for him. Wheeler claims that Copeland later made it all about him while FTR took a backseat.

Dax Harwood says there was a time that Copeland and Cage were the best tag team in the world, only because their competition was mediocre. Harwood says FTR have carried tag team wrestling for 11 years and they’ve cemented themselves as the best. Harwood says this is a dream match for Copeland and Cage. Copeland grabs the mic and tells FTR to shut up. Copeland says FTR broke their friendship up. Copeland wanted to come to AEW to work with FTR. Copeland says the people don’t want FTR in the spotlight, they want him in it. Copeland says he and Cage revolutionized tag team wrestling. Now, two of the greatest teams are facing off in his hometown. Copeland says FTR will understand why there is only one Cope and Cage.

Cage says Stokely may be able to get some hoes with the fine money they might have to pay. Cage says the fine money doesn’t matter to him because he’s rich. Cage then strikes Harwood. Copeland does the same to Wheeler. Cage fights of security guards. Copeland spears one as well. Cope and Copeland send FTR to the outside.

Backstage, Matt and Nick Jackson says they’re back from rags to riches. Matt says tonight marks the beginning of the redemption tour for the Young Bucks. Nick hands Renee Paquette $10,000.

AEW Tag Team Title Eliminator: The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) vs. Bang Bang Gang (Austin Gunn & Juice Robinson)

Matt runs over Robinson with a shoulder tackle. Matt applies an arm lock, then tags in Nick. He and Nick chop Robinson. Robinson clotheslines them both. Austin sweeps Nick off his feet. Matt knocks Robinson off the barricade, then dropkicks him through the ropes. Matt and Nick deliver a backbreaker to Austin.

Back from break, Nick rocks Austin with a running knee. Nick tries to bribe the referee, but he throws the money away. Austin rolls up Nick for a two count. Austin follows with a tilt-a-whirl slam to Nick. Robinson lands a back drop on Nick. He follows with a senton. Robinson fires off jabs on Matt. Nick back elbows Robinson. Robinson crushes Nick in the corner, then charges in with a cannonball. Austin clotheslines Nick. Nick sends Austin to the outside. He then plants Robinson into the mat with facebuster. Austin hits a Famouser on the outside. Nick kicks Robinson from the apron, then wipes out Robinson and Austin with a dive.

Nick and Matt double team Robinson, then superkick Austin. They superkick Robinson for a near fall next. Robinson dodges an EVP Trigger. Matt superkicks Austin. Robinson fires off right hands on Matt, then delivers a lariat. Austin drops Nick with a jumping flatliner. Robinson plants Matt with a Bladerunner. Robinson and Matt trade pinfall attempts. Matt spikes Robinson with an assisted piledriver for the win.

Winners: The Young Bucks

AEW Unified Title Eliminator: The Beast Mortos vs. Mascara Dorada

Dorada and Mortos trade hurricanranas and arm drags. Mortos shoves Dorada, then wipes him out with a dive through the ropes. Mortos launches Dorada into the barricade.

Back from break, Dorada sends Mortos across the ring with an arm drag. He follows with a hurricanrana. Dorada lands a pump kick on the apron. Dorada spikes Mortos with a destroyer. Dorada then flies onto him through the ropes. Mortos delivers a backbreaker. Dorada hits another destroyer. Mortos spikes Dorada into the mat. Mortos chops Dorada in the corner, then stacks him up for a two count.

Mortos goes up top. Dorada meets him there with an enziguiri. Dorada sends Mortos flying off the top with a hurricanrana. Dorada lands a spinning backbreaker. He leaps off the top with a Shooting Star Press for the win.

Winner: Mascara Dorada

After the match, Kazuchika Okada comes out with Don Callis. Konosuke Takeshita follows and stares down Okada. Dorada wipes out Okada with a springboard dive.

We Hear From Toni Storm

Storm says she is still the AEW Women’s Champion, but she doesn’t no for how much longer. Storm says she has lived everyday as if it’s her last. Storm says she has loved every second of her reign though. She asserts that AEW is where the best wrestle, and if you’re not willing to put your life on the line in the ring, then people aren’t sh*t. Storm says if this is the end of her reign, then it’s been the honor of her life. Storm says if the women really want to take her title, then they should burn her body to the ground.

Jamie Hayter grabs her mic and says she can keep her spotlight. Hayter says it’s been a long time since it’s been just her and Storm. Hayter wants Storm to remember that Hayter doesn’t forget. Two, Storm invited Hayter into their AEW All Out title match. And three, Hayter hits hard. Kris Statlander joins in next and says she hasn’t wrestled for that title in four years. Statlander says they can’t stop her. Storm advises the girls to trim their bushes for All Out. Thekla comes out next for her match.

No Holds Barred: Thekla vs. Queen Aminata

Aminata and Thekla brawl on the outside. Aminata rocks her with an elbow, then tosses her into the barricade. Aminata retrieves chairs from under the ring. Aminata suplexes Thekla on the floor. Aminata grabs a pair of kendo sticks and a trash can lid. Thekla boots Aminata in the face. Thekla strikes Aminata with the kendo stick. She launches Aminata over the barricade next. Thekla slams the trash can lid onto Aminata’s head.

Back from break, Aminata drives Thekla into a trash can. Thekla cracks a chair over Aminata’s back. Thekla spears Aminata into the chair next. Thekla and Aminata trade strikes. Aminata headbutts Thekla for a near fall. Thekla whacks Aminata with the trash can lid. Aminata slaps Thekla, only for Thekla to whack her with the lid again. Aminata throws the chair at Thekla’s face. She then drops Thekla onto a stack of chairs. Aminata misses a leg drop. Thekla stomps her into the chairs for the win.

Winner: Thekla

After the match, Thekla calls out Toni Storm. Storm runs down to the ring and rains down with right hands. Hayter and Statlander follow. Statlander yanks Hayter off the apron. They brawl. Julia Hart and Skye Blue run down and beat down Storm. Wheeler Yuta runs down to get Statlander’s attention. Marina Shafir steps between them. Storm fends off Hart, Blue, and Thekla. Hayter and Storm argue in the ring. AEW officials separate them.
