Breaking Down The Tracks

“Call Out My Name”

Starting with the first track “Call Out My Name” let’s break it down. Is it about Selena Gomez?

“We found each other
I helped you out of a broken place”

Right off the bat with this lyric we can easily tie it to Selena. It’s been known that Selena has had her fair of troubles from health issues and so on. So it’s safe to say she was in a ‘broken place’ when they found each other.

“I want you to stay (want you to stay)
I want you to stay, even though you don’t want me
Girl, why can’t you wait? (Why can’t you wait, baby?)
Girl, why can’t you wait ’til I fall out of love?”

It wasn’t long until Selena Gomez went back with her ex Justin Bieber. So when he sings that she doesn’t want him it could mean it’s because it was clear she wanted somebody else. Her on and off beau Justin Bieber.

“I said I didn’t feel nothing, baby, but I lied
I almost cut a piece of myself for your life
Guess I was just another pit stop
‘Til you made up your mind
You just wasted my time”

This is the BIG GIVEAWAY that this song was written about Selena. As we know, Selena was in the hospital last year due to a kidney transplant. In this lyric we can see that he was willing to cut a piece of himself to save her life.

“Try Me”

“I didn’t know you were down for him finding out
I thought you had some kind of love for your man
Well, I’m not tryna break up something”

This is him saying he didn’t know he was coming in between Selena and Justin. He thought at one point she might have loved him.

“Wasted Times”

This track feels like it meant a little for Selena and a little for his prior ex-girlfriend, Bella Hadid.

“Wasted times I spent with someone else
She wasn’t even half of you”

Here is comparing two girls.

“Catchin’ feelings
These girls only want you when you’re winnin’ (winnin’)
But you’ve been with me from the beginnin’ (ooh, yeah, yeah)
And I know right now that we’re not talkin’ (not talkin’)
I hope you know this dick is still an option”

Again he refers to girls. Plural, more than one. And he also says he’s still open when they want him.

“You were equestrian, so ride it like a champion (I’ll beat it)”

This lyric is specific to Bella Hadid who was a former equestrian.

” I Was Never There”

In this song he is basically saying that his happiness was never real because it was like he wasn’t even there.

“Hurt You”

“And now I know relationship’s my enemy
So stay away from me
I’m warning you”

He’s has broken relationships with both Selena and Bella.

‘Cause all the nights you slept alone dryin’ your eyes
And all the nights you thought about takin’ your life
‘Cause if it’s love you want again, don’t waste your time
But if you call me up, I’m fuckin’ you on sight

His relationships hurt him so he’s no longer interested in them. He’s only interested in a sexual relationship.

“When you’re with him, you close your eyes and think of me”

This could be a direct lyric to Selena now that’s she with Justin.

“Privilege”

“Enjoy your privileged life
‘Cause I’m not gonna hold you through the night
We said our last goodbyes
So, let’s just try to end it with a smile”

Both Selena and Bella live a comfortable life. But I believe this is meant towards Selena since she’s his latest breakup.

“And I don’t wanna hear that you are suffering
You are suffering no more
‘Cause I held you down when you were suffering
You were suffering”

Again, we know that Selena has been in and out of therapy for suffering with depression. So, this is Abel saying he doesn’t want to be a part of it anymore.
