In a recent interview with Refinery 29, singer Hayley Kiyoko talked about be coined a “Lesbian Jesus.” And she opens up about how music industry executives question her decisions in featuring female love interests in her music videos. She compared her situation to Taylor Swift.
“I’VE HAD SEVERAL MUSIC INDUSTRY EXECS SAY ‘YOU’RE DOING ANOTHER MUSIC VIDEO ABOUT GIRLS?’ I WAS LIKE, UM, YEA…TAYLOR SWIFT SINGS ABOUT MEN IN EVERY SINGLE SONG AND VIDEO, AND NO ONE COMPLAINS.”

And some Swifties were not happy with Hayley Kiyoko’s comment. However, other fans felt that Hayley didn’t mean any disrespect towards Taylor, she simply used her as example to get her point across.

Taylor Swift read this, and shared her thoughts on the matter.
So, there! Taylor Swift is clearly not upset at all over what Hayley said in the interview. And believes Hayley has the right to “call out anyone who has double standards about gay vs. straight love interests.”
Thoughts, when I first read Hayley’s comment I didn’t feel it was an attack towards Taylor. It probably wasn’t said the right way, but then again what is the right way? And I do see why some fans read that as an insult. But, with Taylor’s response I think she shut it down quickly before anything spiraled out of control.
