Masked Republic hosted the first ever EXPO LUCHA in the United States. The event was held from August 31st to September 1st at the Westgate Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The 2-Day expo featured dozens of luchadores from across different promotions including AAA, CMLL, Lucha Underground, and Impact Wrestling with the mission to expand #LuchaLibre beyond the boarders of Mexico. Addtional activities included live podcasts such as ‘Keeping it 100 with Konnan’ and a Lucha Underground panel, a Rey Mystery museum and four wrestling shows including a ‘Future Legends’ show and a AAA show.
My Experience
I didn’t really know what to expect from Expo Lucha, even though I’d been a long time wrestling fan I hadn’t actually gone to any sort of convention for pro wrestling before. The event was setup with a ring in the middle and booths all around. Each booth had a wrestler selling merchandise, taking pics and signing autographs. Every few hours or so, they would switch out the talent.
I really enjoyed the expo because it gave fans the opportunity to meet everyone at the Expo without having to pay extra for pictures or autographs. It was cool chatting with the luchadors and being able to scope out their merchandise.
And because the event was held in Vegas, it added an extra flair to the event. For example, after the shows you could to the strip or hit the slots. There was entertainment all around.
Overall, Masked Republic did a very good job and making sure each fan had the best experience at their expo. Fans were given free totes, tees and an autograph book. They also did not have to pay extra to watch the live events. Any money you had to spend was really only room, souvenirs and food.
