Annette Reilly currently stars on Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as Diana Spellman, Sabrina’s Mom. And we got a chance to talk to the Canadian actress all about her role and experience on the show!
1. How did you feel landing the role of Diana Spellman in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina? What was your reaction?
Booking any acting gig is always exciting, so I was definitely thrilled. There was secrecy surrounding this role, so I didn’t really know what I was getting into. I didn’t even know for sure if I was Sabrina’s Mom! As we started filming, it became clear that this was much bigger than I had originally anticipated. I’ve been trying to reign in my excitement since day one, because anything can happen in this biz, but overall my reaction has just been pure joy at being involved in this show.
2. Were you a fan of Sabrina The Teenage Witch prior?
Of course! Who wasn’t? The 90s version was great. It was one of the programs I would watch after school.
3. What’s it like being apart of the Netflix family?
It’s a great honor. Netflix has been putting out such great shows and movies. It’s amazing to be part of it all.
4. What’s it like working with Kiernan Shipka?
I have said this before and I will say it again: Kiernan is one of the hardest working actors in Hollywood. I know it sounds cliché, but it’s true. She is a consummate professional and so good at what she does. I love working with her.
5. What is your favorite thing about the series?
Haha. Now you’re asking the hard questions. Besides the incredible cast I get to work with? I would say the production design. The sets and props are incredible and the costumes blow my mind regularly.
6.What are the challenges of playing Diana? (If any) And what are your favorite parts of playing Diana?
I would say the hardest part about playing Diana has been worrying about the fan expectations for this character. She is a pretty iconic character in the comic book. There’s so much lore surrounding Diana and Edward. It’s a lot of pressure!
My favorite part has been getting to bring this iconic character to life! I love seeing fan reactions and can’t wait to see more as the series progresses.
7. Last question: What other Netflix shows do you love?
There’s so many! Glow, Black Mirror, The Crown, Stranger Things, Alias Grace, The Fall. I love Sci-Fi and historical dramas, and then I pepper it with some great crime dramas. Definitely a winning combo.
