Since exiting WWE in 2020, Matt Cardona has established himself as a top performer across the independent circuit, where he is known as “The Indy God.” Additionally, Cardona has boasted notable appearances in TNA Wrestling, All Elite Wrestling, Game Changer Wrestling, and the National Wrestling Alliance, the latter of which also produced a reign as NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion.
With Cardona’s success undeniable at this point, many fans have pushed for him to sign with one of wrestling’s two biggest promotions — AEW and WWE. As Cardona explains, though, no contract offer has materialized from either company.
“I can only control what I can control. I’m not gonna lie to the people; I’m not gonna pretend there’s been all these offers. As a matter of fact, I haven’t been offered anything from WWE or AEW, ” Cardona exclusively told Instinct Culture’s Denise Salcedo. “It is what it is. Maybe that will change one day, but for now, I just need to focus on being me. I need to focus on reinventing myself again. I need to focus on being the top guy on the indies for another year. I got to focus on maybe changing the indies, elevating other people. I can’t harp on what’s not going on.
“I have to focus and put all my focus on just me and creating my own path and creating my own legacy. I feel like I’ve done that the past four years, but it’s almost another year. It’s almost 2025, so the pressure’s on to top myself. It’s a good pressure. I love the pressure.”
While Cardona is currently focused on uplifting himself and his peers in the ring, he asserted that, much like his tagline, he is always ready for a potential phone call.
“Listen, I’m always ready. If the phone rings right now, I’ll have a conversation, but I can’t just be waiting by the phone,” Cardona said. “I can’t sit here [going] ‘Please call.’ I can’t do that. That’s not how I want to live, and that’s not how I want to have my career go. I want to do my own thing, be my own boss, have a lot of fun, make a lot of money. If the call comes, I’m always ready.”
