An update is available regarding Maria Kanellis, who underwent surgery yesterday to remove a mass found on her adrenal gland.
Kanellis’ husband, AEW’s Mike Bennett, posted that the surgery went well and that Kanellis is expected to be released from hospital on Friday.
“Maria’s surgery went well. She is staying overnight at the hospital for observation and should be released tomorrow. My wife is a badass. Thank you to everyone who’s reached out. We love y’all so very much,” Bennett wrote on X.
Kanellis posted to Instagram on Thursday that her sister was taking her in for the surgery. She also noted that she was “happy to see the group/family together in the ring at AEW last night,” likely referring to Bennett, Matt Taven, Roderick Strong, and Adam Cole’s segment on Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite.
“Surgery day!!! Heading to the hospital. With my sister. She’s the best and very funny!! Thanks Undisputed Kingdom for putting me up near the hospital. So, happy to see the group/family together in the ring at AEW last night!!”
“Sending you all the love,” responded Penelope Ford.
“Sending love to you,” wrote Allie, aka The Bunny.
Following the surgery, a biopsy will be performed on the mass to determine if it is cancerous. The mass was discovered in July, but Kanellis said she had been dealing with symptoms related to her adrenal gland for a while now.
“So fun story… 6 months ago I asked to get my adrenal glands checked and blood work done to check hormone levels because of symptoms I had been having. Insurance would not approve the tests. Fast forward today, I had a CT with contrast to check a mass that was found accidentally during another test, that is either on my kidney or adrenal gland. Moral of the story… listen to your body,” Kanellis wrote this summer.
Kanellis also had surgery in early 2023 to remove part of her thyroid after “abnormal cells which could turn cancerous” were found.
Earlier this month, Kanellis revealed that her AEW contract expires at the end of October, and the company has not contacted her regarding whether she will be re-signed.
