Montez Ford: I Know I’m World Championship Material

Montez Ford knows he’s World Championship material.

In a recent interview with The Daily Star, Ford was asked how he’s feeling after the three-way ladder match on the October 4 edition of SmackDown. He responded by saying that while he may have a few bumps and bruises, he feels like the greatest athlete in professional wrestling.

“I feel like I’m the greatest athlete in the professional wrestling circuit. I feel like I’m the greatest entertainer in the professional wrestling circuit. I feel like I’m the greatest of all time. I feel like my confidence is at an all-time high,” Ford said on the show.

However, Ford is frustrated with how The Street Profits have fared in the WWE SmackDown tag team division lately. He noted that he and Dawkins haven’t been in the title picture in about four years, something he blames The Bloodline for.

“It’s been almost four years since we had any type of go at any type of Tag Championship, right? And in the age and era we live in now, if you don’t have something to show your worth, people don’t pay attention to you. The sad part is, it’s not like the Street Profits haven’t shown our worth. We have plenty of times—Evolve, NXT, Raw, and SmackDown Tag Team Championships.”

Ford continued to say he’s grown as frustrated as Kevin Owens regarding The Bloodline, possibly teasing a heel turn similar to the SmackDown star’s.

“Right now, I’m just looking at where I need to be and where I need to go. I’m getting rid of the excess fat that is hindering me from being the person I know I can be, which is a world heavyweight champion. I know that. I can say that. There’s no doubt, no lack of confidence in that. I know that I’m a world champion, I’m world championship material, and nobody can take that away from me.”

However, Ford said he will not pursue his goal of becoming a world champion until he has closed the door on this current chapter of his career. When asked what is left for The Street Profits to accomplish, Ford said winning the tag titles in front of a live audience is the goal, as their only previous run with main roster tag belts came during the pandemic era.

“Now, we had championship gold during the pandemic. We were here when no one else was there—the Street Profits were there. We were there every single week in front of no audience, putting on matches and carrying on our legacy, winning the tag team championships in Barclays in front of an audience and then going the entire reign in front of no one. We were there every time, consistently showing up, and then right when the crowd started coming back in, we lost the tag team championships and never gained them back again.”

“We tried, scratched, and clawed, going through this and that. There’s been speed bumps and years of the Bloodline, and it’s just like, man, what are we doing wrong? That’s where I’m at now—what am I doing wrong? Something has to happen because if I’m feeling this way, I know the fans are feeling this way. There has to be a shift; it doesn’t necessarily mean I have to go rogue or crazy—it just means something has to shift because what I’m doing currently is not working.”

Ford isn’t the only person who believes he is World Champion material. In 2022, The Rock posted to Instagram about Ford, saying that he will be rooting for him when his time to win the world title arrives.
