The Princess of the Black Throne is back.
Julia Hart’s return to the ring is scheduled for Wednesday’s AEW Fight for the Fallen against Jamie Hayter. She hasn’t wrestled since having shoulder surgery in May. In her last match at AEW Dynasty, she lost the TBS title to Willow Nightingale.
During a recent interview with Variety, Hart was asked who she is eager to get in the ring with, and she responded that current TBS Champion Mercedes Moné has her title.
“Definitely Mercedes (Moné), she has my title,” Hart responded. “Probably Willow (Nightingale) too, she took the belt from me. I’ve never worked with Mariah (May), I’ve never worked with Toni (Storm). I would love to work with Serena Deeb, I think she’s someone I could learn a lot from in the ring.”
Hart’s AEW return was teased with a series of vignettes in which the darker House of Black version of her character haunted her previous cheerleader gimmick and shot her with an arrow. She wrote the vignettes herself but recalls struggling to explain her vision when pitching them to management.
“I’m not very good with my words, I’m better at visually showing it. I remember saying ‘Yeah, and then I go shoot myself’ and people were like ‘What are you talking about?’ I’m like ‘Let me just go film it. And then you’ll understand.”
Hart credits photographer/videographer Dani Venen for bringing her vision for the vignettes to life.
“Dani picks up what I’m saying just like that. Me waking up to the ringing of a phone, the idea at first was a letter, and Dani was like ‘You love ‘The Black Phone’, why don’t you do a black phone?’ I tell her what I’m thinking, and she can make it 10 times better.”
Venen posted to Instagram about the work she did with Hart on the vignettes, writing, “Julia wrote this whole vignette, she truly is a mastermind at storytelling! We always have so much fun working together, beyond grateful to be her videographer.”
After the final vignette aired, Venen added, “The final installment of vignettes with Julia, we’re both so proud of how these all turned out! She wrote all three videos and we filmed everything in a day and a half — and that one shot of the arrow flying took me 2 HOURS to edit!”
Hart started training with Ken Anderson’s (AKA Ken Kennedy) school in Minnesota in late 2019. In 2021, she received additional training at QT Marshall and Cody’s Rhodes’ Nightmare Factory in Georgia. A few months later, she began performing with the Varsity Blondes in AEW. Malakai Black misted her in December of that year, and after several months of teasing, she joined House of Black at Double or Nothing 2022.
Considering she is still in her first few years of wrestling, Hart says she refers to herself as the “Princess of the Black Throne” rather than the Queen because she feels she still has much to learn.
“I call myself the ‘Princess of the Black Throne’ instead of the ‘Queen’ because I feel like princesses are more naive,” Hart added. “I still have a lot to learn, I still have so much more to go. I’m just a couple years into wrestling. Learning more in-ring wise, and figuring out people’s brains better, because I love to be the keeper of secrets. Figuring people out, figuring out their weaknesses, how to tear them down and beat them.”
