AEW Dynamite January 22, 2025: Kenny Omega & Will Ospreay Join Forces, AEW Tag Titles On The Line, Cope vs. Pac

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite emanates from the Knoxville Civic Coliseum in Knoxville, Tennessee! Kenny Omega & Will Ospreay join forces to take down The Don Callis Family. Jamie Hayter and Julia Hart square off for the second time this year. Cope battles Pac in the main event. Private Party defend the AEW Tag Team Championships against The Hurt Syndicate and more!

We Hear From Kenny Omega & Will Ospreay

Ospreay tells Omega that he has nothing to do with the Don Callis Family anymore. He was also trying to help him fend them off last week. Ospreay says he can’t fight the Don Callis Family anymore though. Omega reminds Ospreay of the last time they shared a ring, which was Forbidden Door. Omega recalls Ospreay stabbing him in the head with a screwdriver, which Callis handed him. Omega asserts that Ospreay was trying to prove he was better than him back then. Omega doesn’t believe he’s better than him neither now nor back then. Omega says he will never help Ospreay because he doesn’t trust him.

Don Callis appears on the stage. Omega chases after him, prompting Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher to start beating Omega down. Ospreay runs down to even the odds. Fletcher tries to take down Ospreay with a hurricanrana, but Ospreay counters it. Takeshita strikes Ospreay in the back. Omega then takes down Takeshita with a snapdragon suplex. Fletcher then lays out Omega with a kick. Fletcher kicks Ospreay over the barricade, then dives onto him. Ospreay and Fletcher begin brawling in the crowd until Lance Archer ambushes Ospreay.

Meanwhile, Omega and Brian Cage brawl in the concessions area. Omega and Ospreay counter a chokeslam attempt from Archer with a double suplex. Cage launches a trash can into Omega. Fletcher and Cage then tee off on Ospreay. Takeshita and Omega trickle back into the crowd. Omega and Ospreay leap off the balcony, wiping out the entire Don Callis Family. Omega grabs a microphone and promises to put The Don Callis Family six feet under. Omega apologizes to Ospreay and calls for a tag match against Fletcher and Takeshita at Grand Slam Australia.

Backstage, Jon Moxley says the Death Riders are building a future.

AEW World Tag Team Title: Private Party (c) vs. The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin) (w/ MVP)

Lashley slams Quen to the mat. Quen responds with an enziguri then tags in Kassidy. Lashley levels Kassidy and tags in Benjamin. Kassidy plants Benjamin with a tornado DDT. He follows up with a senton. Kassidy stuns Lashley against the ropes. Private Party dive through the ropes, but are caught by Lashley and Benjamin. Lashley and Benjamin toss them to the floor. They then send Kassidy crashing through the announce table.

Back from break, Lashley fires off stomps on Quen in the corner. He tags Benjamin back. Queen rocks Benjamin with a step up enziguri. Quen tags in Kassidy. He delivers a dropkick to Benjamin, then plants him with a DDT. Quen flies off the top with a 450 Splash for a near fall. Benjamin tags in Lashley. Quen and Kassidy take turns kicking him. Lashley bounces back with a spear on Kassidy. Quen breaks up the following pinfall attempt. Benjamin launches him across the ring with a pair of German suplexes. Lashley chokeslams Quen, then spears Kassidy for the win.

Winners (And New): The Hurt Syndicate

Backstage, Harley Cameron wishes Toni Storm good luck at Grand Slam Australia. Storm says Cameron could have a potential match in Australia as well.

We Hear From Jeff Jarrett

Jarrett recalls a tag match early in his career, in which the opponents beat his butt physically and verbally. Jarrett said he threw jabs back. Jarrett says Jerry Lawler came into the locker room after the match and asked him what he was doing. Jarrett says Lawler told him to never get in the gutter with his opponent. Jarrett vows that MJF will find out who the Last Outlaw is by beating his ass.

Jarrett says the crowd gave him the gift of confidence, especially in becoming AEW World Champion. Jarrett calls out Jon Moxley. Claudio Castagnoli attacks him from behind. He says no one gets to Moxley without getting through him first. He also warns Jarrett to stay out of Death Riders business. Jarrett tells Castagnoli he’ll have to kill him to stop him. Jarrett challenges Castagnoli to a match next week, on the condition if he wins, Jarrett then gets to challenge Moxley for the title.

AR Fox vs. Swerve Strickland (w/ Prince Nana)

Strickland and Fox trade forearm strikes. Strickland leaps onto Fox on the outside. Back in the ring, Strickland descends off the top. Fox, however, blocks it with his knees. Strickland takes down Fox with a shoulder tackle, then a suplex.

Back from break, Fox DDTs Strickland. Ricochet distracts Strickland. Prince Nana follows him to the back. Fox looks for a splash, but Strickland moves out of the way. Fox rolls up Strickland for a near fall. Strickland plants Fox with a Flatliner and a House Call. He follows up with a Swerve Stomp for the win.

Winner: Swerve Strickland

Backstage, Ricochet says he has a lot to get off his chest. He holds a pair of scissors to Nana, prompting Strickland to rush to the back.

Elsewhere, Big Bill says he’s coming to find Powerhouse Hobbs at AEW Collision.

We Hear From MJF

MJF tells a local competitor to get out of his ring. He says he deserves an apology. He says he offered Jeff Jarrett a deal because he’s the easiest to beat. MJF calls Jarrett senile for believing he can be AEW World Champion in 2025. He also states that Claudio Castagnoli will beat his brains in next week. MJF says professional wrestling doesn’t love Jarrett anymore, neither does the fans. MJF says Jarrett will find out the hard way that sometimes you’re better off making a deal with the devil instead of defying him.

“Hangman” Adam Page walks down and stares down MJF. He directs him to leave the ring.

Page rains down with hands, then delivers a Lariat for the win.

Winner: Adam Page.

Post-match, Page lays out his opponent with the Angels Wings. Christopher Daniels emerges onto the stage. Page yells at him. Daniels says all he wanted to do was be a friend to Page, but Page attacked him. Daniels says the doctors have advised him to never wrestle again. Daniels tells Page he won, and that now is goodbye.

Backstage, Mercedes Mone says she can’t wait to see who hops on the Mone train next. Harley Cameron approaches her with a song asking for a match in Australia. Mone declines.

Jamie Hayter vs. Julia Hart

Hayter throws Hart into the barricades. Hayter then whips her into the steel steps. Back in the ring, Hayter delivers a missile dropkick. She covers Hart for a two count. Hart responds with splashs in the corner. Hart yanks Hayter off the rope, causing her to crash into the mat.

Back from break, Hayter fires off elbow strikes. She follows up with a series of German suplexes. Hayter locks in an leg submission. Hart reaches the bottom rope to break it. Hart locks in a flying Octopus hold, which Hayter counters with a backbreaker. Hart rolls up Hayter with a crucifix bomb. She follows up with a back elbow. Hayter responds with another backbreaker and a Hayterade for the win.

Winner: Jamie Hayter

After the match, Hayter applauds Hart for moving to the beat of her own drum. Hayter tells Hart that she’s game for a rubber match, as they’re 1-1 against each other.

Backstage, Powerhouse Hobbs says he’ll be waiting for Big Bill in the parking lot on Collision.

A vignette plays of Julia Hart, Brody King, and Buddy Matthews. They appear to be moving forward without Malakai Black.

Cope vs. PAC

Pac kicks Cope’s leg. They then lock up, with Pac applying an ankle lock. Cope reverses into a hammerlock. Cope goes for a headlock, but Pac reaches the ropes to break it. They lock up again, with Cope covering Pac for a one count. Pac kicks Copeland in the midsection. Cope drags Pac to the outside and slams him against the steel steps. Pac slams Cope against the ring apron, then stomps away at his neck.

Back from break, Pac locks in a bulldog choke. He follows up with a snap suplex. Cope hits a Flapjack, then drives Pac into the mat. PAC locks in another submission. Cope reaches the bottom rope to break it. PAC goes right back to Cope with The Brutalizer. Cope powers out of it and plants PAC. Cope hits a pair of spears. He follows up with a spinning cutter for the win.

Winner: Cope

Backstage, The Death Riders are seen attacking The Rock N’ Roll Express with a chair as Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler are tied to other chairs. They head to the ring and ambush Cope. Jay White runs down in an attempt to even the odds. He neutralizes Wheeler Yuta, Claudio Castagnoli, and PAC. He then looks for a Blade Runner on Moxley, but Yuta low blows him before he can hit it. The Death Riders gang up on Cope and White. Moxley finishes off Cope with a Bulldog Choke.
