WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event (1/25): WWE Women’s World Title, Sheamus vs. Breakker, Gunther vs. Jey Uso

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event emanates from the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas! Rhea Ripley defends the WWE Women’s World Championship against Nia Jax. Sheamus challenges Bron Breakker for the Intercontinental Championship. Gunther defends the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Jey Uso, and more!

We break it all down in the WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event recap!

WWE Hall of Famer Jesse “The Body” Ventura joins Joe Tessitore to run down the card for tonight. We then pan to Michael Cole and Pat McAfee, who are calling the action on commentary tonight.

WWE Women’s World Title: Rhea Ripley (c) vs Nia Jax

Jax headbutts Ripley during introductions. The bell rings and Ripley delivers a dropkick. Ripley spikes Jax with a Tornado DDT, then a cannonball to the outside. Ripley tries to clotheslines Jax, but she reverses it with a pop-up powerbomb. The two go up top, where Jax descends with a Samoan Drop for a two-count pinfall attempt.

Back from break, Ripley tries for another clothesline, but Jax is unfazed. Ripley hits a Code Red for a two count. Jax responds by dropping Ripley to the mat. She follows up with a leg drop off the top. Ripley slams Jax, then tries to transition to the Prism Lock. Jax fights out of it and plants Ripley with a uranage. Ripley pushes Jax off the turnbuckle and onto the floor. She leaps off the top with a crossbody. Back in the ring, Jax connects with an Annihilator. She goes for a second one, but Ripley counters with an Electric Chair slam. Ripley kicks Jax in the back of the head, then follows up with a Riptide for the win.

Winner (And Still): Rhea Ripley

WWE reveals Hall of Famers Alundra Blayze and Mark Henry sitting in the outside. Jesse Ventura joins Cole and McAfee at the commentary desk.

Intercontinental Title: Bron Breakker (c) vs. Sheamus

Breakker and Sheamus lock up, with the latter taking down the former with a clothesline. Breakker drops Sheamus on his back in response. Breakker sends Sheamus to the outside. He then charges after him, only for Sheamus to catch him and launch him into the timekeeper’s area. Sheamus leaps off the steel steps, but Breakker catches him with a mid-air spear.

Back from break, Breakker delivers a pair of knees to Sheamus’ mid-section. Sheamus responds with a kick, then follows up with a series of forearm strikes. Sheamus connects with a Celtic Cross for a near fall. Breakker bounces back with a Gorilla Press Slam and a Frankensteiner. He looks for a spear, but Sheamus intercepts with a Brogue Kick. Sheamus covers him, but Breakker breaks the fall with a foot on the rope. Sheamus calls for another Brogue Kick, but clutches his ribs before he can connect. Breakker spears Sheamus for the win.

Shawn Michaels Moderates Cody Rhodes-Kevin Owens Contract Signing

Shawn Michaels first introduces Kevin Owens, who comes equip with the Winged Eagle Championship. Michaels then introduces Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. Michaels asks Rhodes and Owens to be seated, but they do not obey. He asks them to sign the contract for their Royal Rumble ladder match. Rhodes signs first. Owens goes to sign, but grabs a microphone. He says Rhodes pissed him off when he said Owens takes the easy way out. Owens declares that Rhodes actually takes the easy way out. Rhodes cuts him off and makes it clear he’s tired of talking about the past and hearing Owens talk. Rhodes says he needs focus on who he will defend his title against at WrestleMania.

Rhodes urges Owens to sign the contract, which he does. Owens says Rhodes is not done worrying about him. He vows to make everyone shut up about him, and show that Owens is the rightful WWE Champion. Owens says he will also get the attention that Rhodes previously had. Michaels calls Owens jealous. Owens claims that Michaels is the one who’s jealous. He further states that he will give the people a champion they can look up to. He declares that Rhodes will lose his smile at the Royal Rumble. Owens shoves the contract back at Michaels. Michaels calls for a referee to take the championships and ascend them above the ring. Michaels says only one man will walk away with the titles at the Royal Rumble.

Owens hits a cheap shot on Rhodes. He then looks to piledrive Michaels, but Rhodes pushes him off of the Hall of Famer. Michaels rocks Owens with a Sweet Chin Music to end the segment.

Braun Strowman vs. Jacob Fatu

Strowman nails Fatu with a back elbow, then dumps him over the top rope. Fatu sends Strowman over the top as well, then follows up with a suicide dive.

Back from break, Strowman delivers a sidewalk slam. He grounds Fatu with a big kick, then tosses him across the ring. Strowman charges in toward Fatu on the outside, sending him crashing into the barricade. Strowman then launches Fatu over the announce table. Fatu responds with a Samoan Drop on the announce table. Back in the ring, Fatu repeatedly hip checks Strowman in the corner. The referee tries to stop Fatu, only to be hurled to the outside by him. Fatu hits two more hip checks before the referee calls for the bell.

Winner (Via Disqualification): Braun Strowman

After the match, WWE officials try to stop Fatu from further damaging Strowman. They are no match for him however, as Fatu hits a trio of moonsaults on a now bloody Strowman.

WWE World Heavyweight Title: Gunther (c) vs. Jey Uso

Uso slaps Gunther, then lays in with chops. Gunther chops him in return. Uso fires off right hands in the corner. Gunther chops him again, which sends him to the outside.

Back from break, Gunther slams Uso to the mat, then chops him once more. Uso fights back with elbow strikes. Gunther whips him into the corner, then stomps on his hand. Gunther applies a headlock, which Uso escapes. Gunther nails Uso with an uppercut. Uso responds with a Samoan Drop. Gunther intercepts a spear with a dropkick and a powerbomb for a near fall. Gunther chokes Uso with his boot on the apron.

Back from another break, Gunther hits a German suplex. Uso bounces back with a superkick for a near fall. Uso hip checks Gunther in the corner and covers him for a two count. Uso goes up top. Gunther chops him, then sets up for a superplex. Uso blocks it and slams Gunther to the mat for another near fall. Gunther looks for a powerbomb, but Uso breaks free and spears him for a two count. Uso hits a superkick and another spear. Uso goes up for an Uso Splash. Gunther kicks out of his subsequent pinfall. Gunther stacks Uso up with two powerbombs for the win.

Winner (And Still): Gunther
