This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite emanates from Garland, Texas. Let’s break it all down in this week’s AEW Dynamite recap!
We Hear From Mercedes Mone & Toni Storm
Mone and Storm meet in the ring, with the former proposing a toast with champagne. Mone toasts herself, who claims to be the new AEW Women’s Champion in three days. Storm tells Mone to save her performative BS for her entrance at All In. Storm thought she knew who Mone was, but she was wrong. Storm warned Mone that she was not like the others. Still, Storm believes that Mone has treated her like an underdog. Storm says Mone has the emotional depth of a kiddie pool and is a two-faced fraud. Storm says she found herself with the AEW Women’s Championship, whereas Mone is hiding behind her gold. Storm asks what Mone is hiding.
Mone says she and Storm are nothing alike because Mone is better than her. Mone says she outshines Storm in success and class. Mone is not afraid to leave it all on the table. Mone says the more the people hate her, the more she wins. Mone says no one will stop the Mone Train. Mone says she knows exactly who she is, the one woman revolution and the alpha in everything. Storm says legacies don’t exist because one day everyone will die. Storm says all that matters is the moment that Mone realizes she fears an ordinary life, whereas Storm fears an ordinary death. Storm feels Mone deserves all the titles in the world, but not the AEW Women’s Championship. Storm says Mone will go down as the woman who just couldn’t win the big one.
Mone says may the best woman win at All In and raises her glass. She and Storm then take a drink. Storm tells her to east s***. Storm attempts a Mone Maker, but Mone escapes through the ropes and up the ramp.
Backstage, Jon Moxley recalls his previous Texas Death Match with Adam Page. Moxley says things have changed since then. Moxley says he has been beaten before, but he has never lost a war of attrition. Moxley questions if Page can survive longer than him. Moxley thinks Page is a waste and pathetic, but he has one chance to prove him wrong.
Bandido & Brody King vs. Konosuke Takeshita & Kyle Fletcher (w/ Don Callis & Lance Archer)
Takeshita and King lock up, then trade strikes. Takeshita connects with an elbow. He tags in Fletcher, who also elbows King. King knocks down Fletcher with a shoulder check. He follows up with chops in the corner before tagging in Bandido. King and Bandido double team Fletcher a scoop slam-running kick combo. Fletcher and Bandido exchange punches. Bandido rocks Fletcher with another running kick. He calls for Takeshita to tag in, who does. Bandido and Takeshita trade blows. Bandido sends Takeshita across the ring with an arm drag. Bandido hits a dropkick. Takeshita responds with a lariat. King goes flying over the top rope. Fletcher leaps to the outside with an elbow to King. Bandido dives through the ropes onto Fletcher. Takeshita follows and wipes out Bandido. King takes down both Takeshita and Fletcher. Takeshita and Fletcher return to the ring, and kicks King off the apron. They then level Bandido.
Back from break, Bandido knocks Takeshita off the apron with a kick. He then spikes Fletcher with a DDT. King tags in and clotheslines Fletcher. King follows up with a side slam and a cannonball in the corner. King elbows Fletcher. Fletcher responds with a Michinoku Driver. Bandido hits a hurricanrana on Takeshita. Takeshita boots Bandido in the corner. Bandido responds with a hurricanrana to Takeshita off the top. Bandido hits a frog splash. Fletcher breaks up the subsequent pinfall attempt, then kicks King off the apron. King sweeps his feet. Fletcher dodges a crossbody from King along the barricade. Takeshita elbows Bandido in the ring. Bandido hits a moonsault on Fletcher to the outside. He then goes up for a twister, which Takeshita intercepts with an elbow strike. Takeshita follows up with Raging Fire for the win.
Winners: Konosuke Takeshita & Kyle Fletcher
Backstage, Christian Cage says his group and FTR will bring their best together on Collision this week. Cage says he likes where FTR’s heads are at. Cage agrees to scratch their backs if they scratch The Patriarchy’s. Stokely says it is an injustice that FTR are not included in the AEW Tag Team Championship match at All In. Stokely and Cage shake hands.
Ricochet vs. Blake Christian
Blake fires off punches, then chops. Ricochet rolls to the outside, then back into the ring. Blake unloads more chops. Blake pushes Ricochet through the ropes, then wipes him out with a dive. Ricochet shoves Blake into the steel steps.
Back from break, Ricochet and Blake trade strikes. Blake connects with an elbow and a kick to the back of Ricochet’s neck. Blake follows up with a springboard cutter. Blake leaps off the top with a 450 splash for a near fall. Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun distract Blake. As Ricochet distracts the referee, Kaun runs over Blake. Ricochet dives onto him through the ropes. They roll back into the ring. Ricochet hits the Spirit Gun and Vertigo for the win.
Winner: Ricochet
After the match, Kaun and Liona chokeslam Blake, then revel in the glory with Ricochet.
Backstage, MJF says Mark Briscoe is about to get hurt and MJF will get one step closer to the AEW World Championship. The Hurt Syndicate find a message written on a white board from Jet Speed. MVP says they are going to handle that business, while MJF handles his business with Briscoe.
We Hear From MJF & Mark Briscoe
MJF mocks Briscoe’s way of talking, then asks if the people understood what he said. MJF wonders what Briscoe thinks he’s doing stepping into the ring with him. MJF says there will be no talky talky tonight. MJF suggests that Briscoe leave the ring and head back to his home and kids. Briscoe says it sounds like MJF needs a country ass whooping. Briscoe says he will whoop MJF’s ass at All In, but tonight is time for talking. Briscoe says he is proud to be a redneck and work hard for everything he’s got.
Briscoe says MJF is the rich guy in the ring, but Briscoe has riches like his family and friends. Briscoe says MJF is bankrupt, which is the word of the day. Briscoe says MJF is morally bankrupt because he has no soul. Briscoe sees through MJF and claims he knows what MJF is going to do next, which is talking about his later brother Jay. MJF says he would never say anything bad about Jay because he’s one of the greatest wrestlers and humans of all time. MJF says he pities Jay because he has to look down and see what Mark has become. MJF says Jay must be rolling in his grave because Mark has gone from being part of a great tag team to now being a joke.
MJF says he is no betting man, but if he was, he’d be willing to bet what Jay would say to Mark. MJF thinks Jay would say it should have been Mark in his accident. Mark fires off punches on MJF. Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin walk down to the ring with MVP. Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight attack them from behind. MJF runs into the crowd, with Briscoe following. Bailey lays in punches on Benjamin. Knight hits Benjamin with his tag title belt, then rams him into the steel steps. Bailey follows up with a dropkick. Bailey and Knight then double team Lashley with kicks. The Patriarchy then ram Lashley into the barricade. Kip Sabian and Nick Wayne do the same to MVP, then Lashley again. Cage retrieves a chair and slams it against Lashley’s leg. Back in the ring, Knight dives off the top onto Benjamin.
Women’s Casino Gauntlet #2 Spot: Megan Bayne (w/ Penelope Ford) vs. Tay Melo (w/ Anna Jay) vs. Thekla vs. Queen Aminata
Thekla and Bayne trade strikes. Bayne then tosses Thekla to the outside. Bayne wipes out Aminata and Melo. Melo sends Bayne over the top rope, then leaps onto her. Thekla follows suit with a crossbody. Aminata wipes out all of her opponents with a dive off the top rope. Aminata tosses Thekla into the barricade.
Back from break, Melo drives Thekla into the mat. Melo then fires an elbow at Aminata. Bayne runs over Melo, then crushes her and Aminata in the corners. Bayne lays out Aminata with a slam. Thekla kicks Bayne in the spine. Bayne blocks a DDT attempt from Thekla and hits a vertical suplex. Melo lays in punches on Bayne. Aminata and Melo take turns hitting Bayne. They then send her to the outside. Melo boots Thekla in the face. Bayne comes back in with a shoulder tackle to Melo. Bayne looks for Fate’s Descent on Thekla, but instead launches her into Melo and Aminata on the outside. Bayne dives through the ropes. She and Melo return to the ring, with Melo landing a series of kicks. Melo catches Bayne with a knee to the face.
Thekla rocks Melo with a right elbow, then charges in with a spear. Aminata kicks Thekla in the head. Thekla rolls up Aminata for a two count. Aminata lands a running kick. Ford and Jay brawl at ringside. Bayne spears Aminata, then lands a running powerbomb on her for the win.
Winner: Megan Bayne
Backstage, Mark Briscoe is fired up after his encounter with MJF. He vows to win the Casino Gauntlet and kill MJF.
Samoa Joe vs. Wheeler Yuta
Yuta and Joe lock up, with the latter grounding the former. Joe fires of punches on Yuta. Yuta lands an elbow and misses a leap off the top. Yuta dropkicks Joe. Joe leaps to the outside, but Joe moves out of the way.
Back from break, Yuta dives through the ropes. He then lands a flying elbow off the top. Yuta drives Joe into the mat with a flying armbar. Yuta connects with a knee drop. Joe connects with an Atomic Drop and a senton. Yuta and Joe trade strikes. Joe blocks a German suplex. Yuta bites Joe’s ear. Joe locks in the Coquina Clutch. Yuta taps.
Winner: Samoa Joe
After the match, Gabe Kidd attacks Joe from behind. Powerhouse Hobbs and Katsuyori Shibata run down to even the odds.
Adam Page, The Opps (Katsuyori Shibata & Powerhouse Hobbs) & Will Ospreay vs. Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli & Jon Moxley) & The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) (w/ Marina Shafir)
Page turns Matt inside out, then fires off strikes. Page runs over Matt with a kick. Nick bounces Page off the rope. He and Matt then double team him with stomps. Ospreay tags in and takes out Matt and Nick with a dive and a back kick. Ospreay elbows Nick in the corner. Shibata dropkicks Nick. Hobbs powerslams him next. Ospreay hits a skytwister press on Nick. All eight men begin brawling. Ospreay takes out Matt and Claudio. Page boots Nick off the apron. Page follows up with a moonsault off the rope, wiping out all of his opponents. Page stares down Marina Shafir.
Back from break, Claudio goes shoulder first into the ring post. Moxley tags in. Ospreay hits a snap suplex on him. Page hits a lariat on Claudio, then a fallaway slam on Matt. Page leaps onto Claudio. He sends Nick face first into the apron. Page lands a moonsault on Claudio, then a powerbomb on Matt. Hobbs tags in and meets Claudio in the ring. They trade strikes. Hobbs crushes Claudio in the corner with short arm lariats.
Moxley boots Hobbs, only to then eat a lariat. Shibata boots Claudio in the corner, then lands a flurry of chops. Shibata locks in a sleeper. Claudio blocks his attempt at a running knee. Nick superkicks Shibata. Nick superkicks Page, as does Nick. Nick and Matt superkick Ospreay too. They then superkick Hobbs. Claudio and Moxley send Hobbs crashing into the table. Matt and Nick land the EVP Trigger on Shibata. Matt leaps onto Page on the outside. Claudio hits the Neutralizer on Shibata. Moxley follows with the bulldog choke for the win.
Winners: Death Riders & Young Bucks
After the match, Page returns to the ring with a flurry of punches on Moxley. The Death Riders and Young Bucks stop him. Moxley grabs a chain. Ospreay tries to fend everyone off, but suffers a beatdown too. Shafir reveals plastic bags. The Death Riders hold Ospreay and Page back. Swerve Strickland appears on the big screen.
Strickland says everything between he, Matt, and Nick has been about control. Strickland says he’s taking it back now. Strickland crushes Matt and Nick’s limo with a bulldozer crane. The Opps, Page, and Ospreay level the Death Riders in the ring. Ospreay wipes them out with a moonsault off the top. Page runs over Moxley with a discus lariat. Claudio hits Page with an uppercut. Page takes him down with a lariat in return. Ospreay tosses Page a chain. Shafir pulls Moxley to the outside. The Death Riders retreat through the crowd as Page, Ospreay, and The Opps stand tall.
Outside, Matt and Nick grieve the destruction to their limo. They tell Prince Nana he and Strickland will pay for this. Strickland takes them both out with a stomp.
