Straight Outta Compton’s Jamaal Lewis : From a Military Family To Hollywood


He grew up in a military family in Colorado Springs. During his childhood, he was short and overweight. He thought his claim to fame at the time was to join a band. Over the course of a Summer, he had a growth spurt and discovered his love for sports. He excelled at baseball, track and field, and basketball. He ended up running a full-ride scholarship to Arizona State University.

He never considered acting. His girlfriend told him he should model. He booked a few national commercials. The checks came in within a few weeks and he was hooked. He began booking on a consistent basis. Through his hard work and dedication, he has landed into an acting role in “Straight Outta Compton.

“I love being in the industry because you never know what you’re going to book one day. You could be a doctor or you could be a love interest in a music video. It’s completely night and day, so it keeps you on your toes and that’s the element about the industry that I absolutely love.”

Lewis was in the movie, “Perfect Pitch.” “It was a good intro for me when it came to being on a movie set for longer than a week. I was kind of the right -hand man of the lead character and I definitely just soaked it all In.”

He has also been seen in music videos with Big Sean, The game, Tory Lanez, Ty Dolla $ign, and E-40.

Upcoming this year, Lewis will be in his first Co-Star role in a BET series. He also plays a part in “Dolomites” starring Eddie Murphy that will be released at the end of the year, as well as the face of the 2019 video game, “Call of Duty.”

Lewis just finished filming the pilot to his very first lead in the movie, “Poles.”

“I truly would like to encourage anyone who’s going after the dream to just keep going you’re going to get 1 million no’s before you get that one yes. You stay consistent in your efforts and in your grind and it will all pay off keep God first, stay blessed.”
