AEW Dynamite New Year’s Smash: TBS & National Titles On The Line, Mixed Tornado Tag

This final AEW Dynamite of 2025 emanates from Omaha, Nebraska! We break it all down in this week’s Dynamite recap.

We Hear From MJF

MJF introduces himself as the new AEW World Champion. He then throws down the original world title for a new big Burberry title belt. MJF acknowledges that many fans are upset with him being champion again, but he refuses to take it easy on the fan favorites. MJF suggests that anyone who is dumb enough to step up to him has two options, either step up or get stepped on. MJF says he is done slow trotting around so the slow donkeys can catch up to him. MJF says he is sprinting toward the finish line now so he can go down as the greatest of all time. MJF reminds the people that he is better than him.

Kenny Omega appears on the big screen. He says MJF made him feel a certain kind of way. Omega says he hates feeling like he’s leaving a stone unturned. Omega also hates the feeling of what if, such as what if he can become world champion again. Omega also asks what if he and MJF meet in the ring today. MJF says he doesn’t know, but he is determined to prove that he is worthy of being a challenger. Omega promises that MJF will be seeing more of him sometime in the future. Omega says goodbye for now though. MJF says the crowd chanting doesn’t change that fact that Omega couldn’t say any of his words to MJF’s face.

Adam Page’s music hits. He appears in the crowd, as does Swerve Strickland. Both have chains around their necks and walk down the stairs. AEW security try to hold them back as MJF tells them to relax. MJF says he believes that wins and losses matter, and right now, both Page and Strickland are losers. MJF advises them to pick up some wins, then talk to Tony Khan, but until then, MJF is leaving. MJF runs away through the crowd, leaving Page and Strickland to attack the security guards in the ring. They run over two of them with their chain. Strickland and Page also slam two more into the mat. Another eats a Buckshot Lariat and a House Call.

Page grabs a microphone. Page warns that he will strangle MJF with the world title before he takes it away from him. Strickland says he’s only shown MJF a piece of what he wants, so now the hunt is on. Samoa Joe appears on the big screen next. Joe says neither of them deserve anything, but he deserves a rematch against MJF. Joe says he was robbed at Worlds End. Joe announces that Hook will beat down Page on site. Meanwhile, Powerhouse Hobbs will hunt down Strickland. Joe suggests they do that all next week. Strickland calls for a Lights Out Match.

Backstage, Mark Briscoe says the Conglomeration will have more championship gold heading into 2026.

Mixed Tornado Tag Team: Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli, Daniel Garcia & Marina Shafir) vs. Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong & Toni Storm

Storm dropkicks Shafir in the ring, while the men brawl on the outside. Storm then rains down with right hands on Shafir in the corner. Claudio dumps Storm to the outside. Strong chops Claudio, then takes him down with a dropkick. Strong follows with right hands of his own. Garcia does the same to Strong in the corner next. Cassidy thrust kicks Garcia, then strikes Garcia with a single punch. Shafir tries to lock in a Full Nelson on Cassidy. Cassidy blocks it by putting his hands in his pockets. Cassidy rolls up Shafir for a one count. Garcia drops Cassidy with a back suplex. Death Riders take turns hitting Cassidy in the corner. Shafir and Garcia then nail him with a double boot

Back from break, Storm and Cassidy work together to level the Death Riders. Cassidy nails Claudio with a PK. Strom tries to swing Claudio, only to eat a boot to the face from Garcia. Cassidy rocks Garcia with an Orange Punch. Shafir locks in Mother’s Milk on Cassidy. Strong breaks it up and delivers a backbreaker to Shafir. Claudio slams Strong to the mat. Cassidy lands a Stun Dog Millionaire on Claudio. Storm follows with a hip attack. Cassidy hits a DDT as well. Wheeler Yuta distracts Cassidy, allowing Claudio to blast Cassidy with an uppercut for the win.

Winners: The Death Riders

After the match, Storm checks on Cassidy, much to the displeasure of Mina Shirakawa.

Bandido vs. The Beast Mortos

Bandido and Mortos lock up. Mortos charges at Bandido as he holds up his cape similar to a bull fight. Mortos wipes out Bandido with a twisting dive through the ropes. Mortos and Bandido exchange arm drags, then roll-ups. Bandido sends Mortos to the outside, where Bandido wipes him out with a crossbody.

Back from break, Mortos drops Bandido with a backbreaker. He follows with a discus lariat for a near fall. He delivers another one, then climbs to the top turnbuckle. Bandido evades the moonsault attempt that follows, then boots Mortos in the face. Bandido delivers a knee strike and a 21 Plex for the win.

Winner: Bandido

Backstage, Bandido then vows to become the next AEW World Champion.

Brody King vs. Lee Johnson

King wipes out Johnson before the bell, than slams him into the barricade. King chops Johnson, then rolls him back into the ring. The bell officially rings. Johnson blasts King with boots in the corner. Johnson thrust kicks King as well, only to then run into a lariat. King follows with a cannonball and a driver for the win.

Winner: Brody King

AEW Continental Title Eliminator: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Josh Alexander

Alexander goes right after Moxley in the corner. Alexander chops him. The two trade strikes. Alexander cinches in an ankle lock, then stomps on his foot. Moxley answers with a series of chops and an elbow. Alexander sends Moxley to the outside, where he stomps at Moxley’s leg. Alexander drops Moxley onto the apron. He hangs Moxley upside down in the corner, then charges in with a splash.

Back from break, Moxley German suplexes Alexander. Alexander responds with a dropkick. Moxley runs over Alexander with a lariat in return. Alexander rolls to the outside. Moxley wipes him out with a dive. Alexander pulls Moxley into the corner, then slams his leg against the ring post. He locks in a Figure Four next. Alexander leaps off the top with a knee. He twists Moxley’s ankle next. Moxley reverses into a bulldog choke. Alexander fades.

Winner: Jon Moxley

After the match, Shelton Benjamin stares down Moxley.

AEW National Title: Ricochet (c) (w/ GOA) vs. Jack Perry (w/ Luchasaurus)

Ricochet runs over Perry with a shoulder. Perry reaches his feet and sweeps Ricochet off his. Perry yanks Ricochet’s beard. then wipes him out with a dive. Bishop Kaun pulls Perry’s legs as Ricochet distracts the referee. Luchasaurus pulls Kaun off of Perry, only to get thrown into the ring post by Toa Liona. Ricochet levels Perry with a dive through the ropes.

Back from break, Perry spikes Ricochet with a diving DDT. As Ricochet distracts the referee again, Kaun grabs Perry’s boot. Ricochet blasts Perry with a Spirit Gun for the win.

Winner: (And Still) Ricochet

After the match, Liona slams a steel barricade onto Luchasaurus’ arm up on the stage.. Ricochet rocks Perry with another Spirit Gun in the ring. Kaun repeatedly slams a chair onto Luchasaurus’ arm. Liona then slams a security guard onto Luchasaurus.

Backstage, Jon Moxley says the Death Riders are setting the standard. Wheeler Yuta says if Darby Allin wants to get to Pac, he must get through him first.

AEW TBS Title: Mercedes Mone (c) vs. Willow Nightingale

Mone dropkicks Nightingale out of the ring, then rams her into the barricade. Mone charges toward Nightingale again, only to miss and run into the barricade knees-first. Nightingale shoves Mone into another barricade. Nightingale rolls Mone back into the ring and covers her. Mone kicks out. Mone rolls up Nightingale for a one count. Nightingale drops Mone with a lariat for a two count. Nightingale chops Mone, then rocks her with a second rope dropkick. Nightingale follows with a cannonball into the corner. Nightingale lands another cannonball, this time to the outside. Mone drives her knees into Nightingale as she lay against the steel steps.

Back from break, Mone dodges a cannonball from Nightingale on the outside. Mone follows a suplex on the floor. Nightingale drives Mone into the side of the ring. She clears the announce table next. Mone suplexes Nightingale onto the table. The referee begins counting. Mone makes it back into the ring, as does Nightingale at the count of nine. Mone delivers repeated elbow strikes. She locks in the Statement Maker next. Nightingale and Mone trade pinfall attempts. Mone fires off elbows, then slides into a jacknife pin. Nightingale rolls over and lays out Mone with the Babe with the Powerbomb for the win.

Winner (And New): Willow Nightingale

After the match, Orange Cassidy, Harley Cameron, Mike Bailey, and Kevin Knight come out to celebrate with Nightingale. Kris Statlander appears as well. She and Nightingale hug.
